About CAT

Common Aptitude Test also known the CAT is a computer-based MBA entrance examination conducted for admission into IIMs and other Business schools in the country. The Indian Institutes of management also known as the IIMs initiated this exam using it as a base for selecting students for their business administration programs. It is conducted by one of the IIMs every year, on a rotational basis. IIM Kozhikode conducted the CAT 2019 on 24th November 2019. In 2011, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) announced that would use the CAT scores, to filter students for their management programs starting with the 2012-14 batches. About 24, 00,000 students apply for CAT every year and the numbers are only increasing.

Prior to 2009, CAT had been an offline paper-based examination conducted on a single day. In May 2009, it was announced that thereafter CAT should be conducted online. From 2009 to 2013, the test was programmed by an American firm named “Prometric”. Since 2014, Tata Consultancy Services took over the responsibility of conducting the CAT.
