Indian Institute of Science and Indian Institutes of Technologies (IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Chennai & IIT-Mumbai) jointly conduct GATE for the National Coordination Board – GATE, Dept. of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI).
GATE 2021
GATE 2021 will be conducted for 27 Subjects. GATE 2021 exam will be held over six days for 12 sessions. Starting from Friday 5th, continuing with Saturday 6th, Sunday 7th, Friday 12th & Saturday 13th, it will end on Sunday 14th of February 2021.The GATE examination takes place in different cities throughout India in addition to 6 cities outside India. However, this time the exam will be held in foreign countries only if the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic eliminates and travel restrictions are loosened up. The GATE 2021 score would indicate the comparative performance level of the aspirant in a specific subject, which is attested based on numerous years of exam data.
GATE 2021 is the most popular national-level exam which will be held on February 5-7 and February 12-13 for enrollment of aspirants in PG and doctoral programmes conducted by institutes throughout the country.

GATE 2021: Recent Update
Release of Information Brochure
GATE 2021 will be conducted by IIT Bombay, The institute has also released the Information brochure of gte 2021. The interested applicants will be able to apply for the examination after 14th of September, 2020. The last to apply for GATE 2021 is 30th September 2020 and 7th October 2020 without and with late fee, respectively.
Introduction of two new subjects
IIT Bombay has introduced two new subjects in the GATE 2021 namely, Environmental Science and Engineering (ES) and Humanities and Social Science (XS), this has led to an increment in the total number of subjects to 27 in GATE 2021.
Relaxation in the Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria has been relaxed for the aspirants by IIT Bombay. According to the new criteria, GATE-2021 eligibility criteria have been altered from at least 10+2+4 (ongoing) to at least 10+2+3 (ongoing). This will allow the aspirants studying in the third year of their UG program to take the examination.
Option of two subject-papers
The applicants of GATE 2021 will be allowed to opt for two subject papers from the specified set of subjects’ combinations.

GATE 2021 Eligibility Criteria for candidates other than Indians
Candidates of other countries except India are also allowed to appear for GATE 2021. These aspirants who have qualified or are completing their qualifying degree from countries other than India will have to meet the eligibility criteria as given below:
- Must have finished or appearing in the final year or in the pre-final year of their UG degree in engineering and technology or;
- Must have finished or appearing in the final year or in the pre-final year of their PG degree in any appropriate subjects of Science.
GATE 2021 Syllabus
- Verbal Ability: English grammar, verbal analogies, sentence completion, verbal deduction, word groups, instructions and critical reasoning.
- Numerical Ability: Numerical estimation, computation & reasoning and data interpretation.

GATE 2021: Application Process
Step 1: Fill the Application Form for GATE 2021
- Registration: Enter the details like Name, DOB, Gender, Nationality, Mobile Number, Email ID, etc → Click on the “submit” button.
- Enter the One Time Password (OTP): Submit the OTP received on the registered mobile number and check your username and password sent in a confirmation mail on registered email.
- Log-in & Verify the Details: Login with the username & password → Verify the details entered in the application form → Click on “Confirm”.
- Payment of Application Fee: Pay the application fee online using Net Banking/PayU/Debit/Credit Card.
- Submit: Click on “Submit” button

GATE Admit cards are released online by the concerned authorities of GATE. The authority activates the link to download the GATE admit card on the official website. Applicants can download the same by entering valid information and application number. GATE Admit Card and photo ID proof are mandatory documents to appear in the GATE exam.
Step 4: Appear for GATE 2021
GATE will be held in computer-based mode at various exam centres.
Step 5: GATE 2021 Result Announcement
The GATE 2021 result will be announced on the official website of GATE University after a few weeks of the exam. The qualified candidates will be called to participate in GATE 2021 Counselling.
Step 6: Participate in GATE 2021 Counselling
The GATE Counselling is a web based counselling that takes into account the score obtained by the candidate in GATE. The counselling involves a series of steps like registration, seat allotment, document verification, fee payment and so on.
GATE 2021: Application Form
The GATE 2021 application forms will be released by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay on September 14, 2020. The last date to apply for GATE 2021 without late fee is September 30, 2020, however, that with the late fee of INR 500 is October 7, 2020. Candidates are advised to duly fill the valid details and verify the same before the final submission. However, in case of any mistakes, the candidates will still be provided with a mistake correction facility through the correction window that will open on November 13.
Candidates will be able to fill the application form of GATE 2021 in online mode from the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal. The application form will not be available in the offline mode. It is important for the interested aspirants to fill the application form and pay the application fee to attempt the entrance examination.

GATE 2021: Admit Card
The GATE2021 Admit Card will be issued by the IIT Bombay via the online mode on January 8, 2021. The candidate can read all the details along with latest updates about the GATE2021 Admit Card on the official website. The GATE2021 Admit Card will be downloadable by the candidates from the official website of GOAPS after entering the valid User ID and password. The GATE2021 Admit Card will comprise the details about the exam as well as the candidate such as exam timing, examination date, test centre and name & roll number of the candidate along with other personal information.
GATE 2021: Result
The GATE2021 Result will be announced in the online mode on the official website by IIT Bombay on March 22, 2021.The candidates will be able to access the GATE2021 Result by filling in their Application Number and password. The authority will publish the scorecard of the same after the announcement of the result. Candidates will be able to check and download the GATE 2021 scorecard/result via GOAPS. The GATE2021 Result will be announced for all the participants but will be downloadable by only those who will qualify the exam. The validity of the GATE 2021 score will remain active for three years from the date of its declaration.

GATE 2021 CCMT Counselling
GATE 2021 CCMT (Centralized Counselling for MTech / MArch/ MPlan) Counselling will entirely rely on the aspirant's performance in GATE 2021. Only those applicants who will obtain more than GATE cut-off will be called to participate in GATE 2021 CCMT counselling.
To take part in GATE 2021 counselling, the candidates will need to fill the GATE registration form on the respective portal followed by the payment of GATE 2021 Counselling fee.
The GATE 2021 Centralized Counseling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. will be conducted by the CCMT 2021. The process for centralized admission to PG programs will begin the 2nd week of April 2021. The GATE 201 counselling process will consist of few stages, namely, Online Registration, Choice Filling & Locking , Online Seat Allotment & Seat Acceptance, Admission Fee Payment and Physical Reporting at a Reporting Center (RC) and Admission in the Allotted Institute.
GATE 2021 Admission
After the successful participation in GATE 2021 Counselling and completion of required formalities, the candidates need to download their Provisional Admission Letter (PAL) and report in-person at the allotted institute for admission. The reporting must be done with DVC that will be issued by the RC and PAL on the CCMT-2021 website. Other documents as notified by the respective institutes on their website also need to be carried while reporting. However, before that the candidates will have to pay the complete admission fee in the mode specified by the concerned institutes on their website.
GATE Cut Off
- GATE 2020 Cut Off was released by IIT Delhi. GATE 2021 Cut Off for Mechanical Engineering (ME), CE, EC stood at 34.0, 32.9, and 28.8, respectively.
- Qualified students who scored cut-off marks or more marks the eligibility for M.Tech admission in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) programmes by IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and STIs.
- Some PSUs like IOCL, DRDO, ONGC, BHEL, also use GATE scores to recruit the eligible engineers at different positions. Some of the PSUs are DRDO, IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, BHEL, etc
- Out of a total number of 6,85,088 candidates who appeared in GATE 2021, only 18.8% could successfully qualify the GATE 2021.
- The highest number of applicants were for Mechanical Engineering (ME) and the cut-off of the same stood at 34.0
- Least number of applicants (175 students) were for Ecology and Evolution (EY) and the cut off of the same stood at 42.2
