The NIRF Ranking 2020 was released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development on Thursday, June 11th. The NIRF rankings are released every year by the MHRD and rank institutions in the following 10 categories:
Overall, University wise, College wise, in the field of Engineering, Architecture, Management, Medical, Pharmacy, Dental and Law
In the overall ranking Indian Institute of Technology Madras bagged the first position, Indian Institute of Science got the 2nd rank and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, 3rd.
Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur was ranked at 4th and 5th position respectively.
In the University ranking, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) which got 2nd in the overall position bagged the 1st rank here. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was ranked the second-best University and Banaras Hindu University obtained the third rank. The fourth position was given to Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University and Jadavpur University got the fifth rank.
Amongst the engineering institutes, Indian Institute of Technology Madras was ranked the highest. It is followed by Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay bagged the third position. Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur were given the 4th and 5th spot respectively. This list follows the same trend as the overall list however positions of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur were interchanged as the ranking parameter for each category is different.
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) continues to be the top management institute, followed by Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) and Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) in the 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Indian Institute of Management Lucknow bagged the 4th rank and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur got the 5th rank.
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) and Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) have held the same position for many years.
Jamia Hamdard secured the first position as the best pharmacy institute,
Panjab University got the 2nd rank, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Mohali bagged the third spot, Institute of Chemical Technology secured 4th rank and 5th spot was given to National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Hyderabad.
Miranda House was ranked as the best college followed by Lady Shri Ram College For Women. Hindu College secured the 3rd rank. St. Stephen`s College and Presidency College were given the 4th and 5th position respectively.
In the medical list, All India Institute of Medical Sciences was seen in the first position.Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research is at the 2nd place. 3rd rank was given toChristian Medical College. 4th and 5th positions were taken by National Institute of MentalHealth & Neuro Sciences and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences respectively.
National Law School of India University was ranked as the best law university in the NIRF Ranking 2020. National Law University, Delhi bagged the 2nd position. The Nalsar University of Law got 3ed rank and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur was ranked 4th. National Law University Rajasthan was seen at the 5th spot.
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur was ranked as the best architecture college, followed by Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. National Institute of Technology Calicut secured the third position. 4th was bagged by Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University. School of Planning and Architecture was placed in the 5th position.
In the list of dental institutes, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences bagged the top rank. Followed by Manipal College of Dental Sciences. Thrid rank was given to Dr D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth College. Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences and A. B. S. M. Institute of Dental Sciences got the 4th and 5th rank in the same order.
The dental colleges in India were ranked for the first time this year by NIRF.
The NIRF Ranking 2020 positions differ from the QS World University Rankings. According to the QS World ranking, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) was ranked as the highest institute in India at 172nd position, followed by Indian Institute of Science at 185th position and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) at 193rd, globally.
The NIRF considers the following parameter while ranking:
Research and Professional Practice (RP),Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR),Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), Graduation Outcomes (GO)and Peer Perception. These parameters are valid for overall rankings and other categories have different parameters.The NIRF Ranking 2020 were released online on Twitter from the account of HRD Minister.
